Guild News On Tuesday, 10th March, 2009 Agnes Donald and Elsie McRae led fitting tributes to
Chris Lawson and Kirsty Stewart (both former members of our Guild). The hymn ‘For the beauty of the earth’ was
followed by a prayer and our thoughts for those who could not be with us.
The reading was by Ann Milne. Elsie introduced Betty Christie who is well-known for her floral creations and shows a life-time
interest and dedication to this art form. Betty indicated that the hymn (chosen by Elsie) held poignant memories for her and
proceeded with nimble fingers and scissors to create a triangular shaped ‘beauty of the earth’.
We could see yet again, just how flowers ‘refresh’ in just being their ‘natural selves’. We saw
the variation in leaf colour and shape set as a frame for the colours of orange(roses) and yellow(carnations). Members were
invited to ask questions during the evening and keenly responded to the same. Finally, the arrangement was displayed against
a silky lemon fabric and emerged as a truly wonderful sight, fully appreciated by us all.
The intimations were read which included imminent visits to Cluny and Chapel of Garioch Guilds. A date for our summer
social is set for Tuesday, 16th June at 5.30 for 6 p.m. in the Acorn Centre
The AGM took place where the minutes were approved and seconded. Joan presented the financial report and circulated
the table of proposed disbursement of funds. These were approved and seconded. Nominations were then invited. Mary has agreed
to continue for a further year as co-ordinator. ,
The team thanks were extended to those members who shared duties by leading a meeting over the year- those were Bob and
Christine, Lorna, Fiona, Elsie, Doreen and Ann.
A vote of thanks was given by Doreen
We closed by singing ‘One more step along the world I go’.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday April 14th at 7.30 p.m in the Church when our guest speaker will
be the Rev. Philip Clarke, retired Army Chaplain. Members from St. Andrew’s Guild will join us.
