Kirk Session
Inverurie West Church is part of the Church
of Scotland. We are led by our Minister, Rev. Ian B. Groves, and 47 active Elders. Together they constitute what is known
as the Kirk Session and look after what may be termed the spiritual life of the congregation. The Kirk Session meets 5 times
a year and discusses such things as pastoral care, congregational activities, Communion and other matters relating to the
witness (link to an explanation of the term ‘witness’) of the Church in our local area.Find out more about the
structure of the Church on the Church of Scotland website.
Congregational Board
The
Congregational Board is responsible for the material side of Church life. It is chaired by the Minister and is made up of
all serving Elders and a representative number of elected Church members. It usually meets every couple of months. The work
of the Board is handled by five sub-committees:
Finance Committee -
responsible for maintaining the financial affairs of the congregation. A treasurer sees to the day to day running of the accounts.
Each year annual accounts are presented to Church members at the Annual General Meeting. This committee prepares the budget
for each year and gives advice on financial stewardship.
Fabric Committee
- responsible for maintaining the fabric of all church property. This includes the Church, Chapel, Church Hall and adjoining
cottages as well as the Minister’s home (the Manse).
Social Committee
- plans and organises purely social events such as the Festive party in January, Congregational picnic in summer and occasionally
the entertainment at the Annual General Meeting
Environmental Committee
- responsible for informing the congregation on environmental matters relating to the Church and society in general.
Fund-raising Committee
- plans and organises events to raise funds for building projects and refurbishment within the congregation.
